MVH week ending 18th November

This week it’s mainly been about recovering…

Winter training is in full flow.  Even when the temperatures approach the zero degrees C line and the red snowflake light is illuminated on the car dashboard it only means you will need to add another base layer and crack on.

The Tuesday run at Bannantynes saw a group of 20 runners take to the streets.  A good turnout considering the run was following on from several hours of rain.  The Tuesday run continues to be popular and really does work for all abilities, as the run is a series of shorter legs in which the faster runners loop back.

Thursday swim was the last swim before the swimmers pull on those dragshorts.  You know you want too.  Abbotts Bromley is definitely worth the journey for the 1st of the weeks coached swimming sessions.

Saturday saw almost as many in the cafe afterwards as in the pool in the morning.  No doubt, its a great way to start a Saturday.

Sunday and 11 MVH added extra base layers and thermal hats under cycle helmets for the zero deg C start on stunningly sunny day.  70-75% of max heart rate and cadence above 90 was the focus as the group took in 31 miles of country lanes.  Nobody had a clue where they were bar Martin but that didn’t seem to matter – the views and the company were excellent.

As you do the occassional pause in conditioning cycling occurred.  Sometimes for those natural calls but also for other reasons.  Today the group stopped to observe the complex working of the chain that refused to back pedal.  Don’t ask…  Then to challenge he who defies all logic by wearing branded MVH shorts upside down.  You can read the logo when he lies front down on the ground – which is useful.  And while almost forgiven, the same person confessed to marrying his wife because of her talent in washing his extensive collection of bicycles!  Yes never a dull moment.

Thankfully the sun was kind during these interludes.

Another week closes in.  And new MVH clothing gets a first airing…

Two Cycle Rides from Barton Marina on Sundays

Starting from Sunday 18th November, we are introducing two cycle rides from Barton Marina.

Both cycle rides will commence at 0900 hours from Barton Waterfront.

Cycle ride 1:  This is the shorter cycle ride and will be at a pace that reflects the ability and experience of the cyclists on this ride.  This cycle ride is targeted at those looking for a shorter cycle training session (typically 2 hours or less), those new to triathlon cycling or new to road cycling in a group or for those returning after an injury or period away from cycling.

Prior to commencing the cycle ride, the leader of the cycle 1 group will always discuss and confirm objectives for the cycle ride with the group.  The aim of the cycle ride is to ensure that all have an enjoyable experience while training.  This may mean on occasion a slower pace or a shorter distance.  Cycle ride 1 will always be customised to the abilities of the group.

——–

Cycle ride 2:  This can be a longer cycle ride (2.5 to 3hrs) but not always.  This cycle ride is designed specifically for  triathletes who would categorise themeselves as experienced novices, or intermediate or seasoned triathletes.  This cycle ride will follow the MVH annual Periodisation training timetable.  Conditioning, strength endurance, speed endurance, maintenance & build.  The objective of this cycle ride is to support cycling performance improvement very much with an eye on the forthcoming race season.  The MVH coaching team will set objectives for cycle ride 2 for the relevent periodisation period and the role of the lead cyclist in cycle ride 2 is to determine the route, set the pace and any challenges within the cycle ride to meet the periodisation objectives.

Prior to commencing the cycle ride, the leader of cycle ride 2 will share the objectives with the group.  During the cycle ride the intent is to ensure the group can cycle as a single peleton group, each taking turns at the lead position.  The pace of cycle 2 group will endeavour to meet the ability within the group.  The intent is not to drop cyclists off the back but to ensure that all enjoy the appropriate training for the periodisation period.

Happy cycling for all.  Bring it on!!
