Profiles of nominees

Jonathan Hydon : Nominee for Chairman

Married with 10 year old daughter.  Started in triathlon in 2008 with an embarrassing performance at the Derby Tri. Have subsequently competed in numerous events up to 1/2 Iron distance in 2012, with two further half ironman events planned for 2014, with an ambition to get up to full distance soon!!!! Have also previously ran 3 marathons and countless shorter distance running events. Can usually be found at the dawn-chorus swim session at Repton on Saturday morning or on the Sunday morning club ride, no matter what the weather.

Sarah Clark : Nominee for Membership Secretary

I decided to give triathlon a go in 2008 in a bid to lose weight and found MVH a great club to give me the confidence to move very quickly from just doing a one-off tri to completing numerous sprints, olympic and 2 half ironman events. Coming from a swimming background, I kind of enjoy cycling now but still find running…a challenge! I sea kayak to give my degenerating knees a break.  Having been received into the club with such friendliness myself, I enjoy talking to new members and encouraging them to take part and enjoy all the sport has to offer.

David Brayer (Nominee for Head Coach)

Married, 2 children. I started triathlon following my daughters proclamation aged 7 “Dad I’m doing the Barton Marina Junior open water triathlon in 6 weeks” my reply – what’s that? I needed to know more and fast, within three weeks I had joined MVH, borrowed a wetsuit, swum my 1st Open water session, and raced the Barton Marina Sprint OW race on my mountain bike. I spent 3 minutes in T1 and have been passionate about triathlon ever since along with my wife and two daughters.

Lisa Wright:  Nominee for Equipment Officer

My first triathlon was Foremarke Hall sprint triathlon in 2010 after making a new year resolution to compete in one. I raced on mountain bike and that was it I got completely hooked, since then I’ve taken part in numerous events in various parts of the country.  In 2013 was my most enjoyable race when I took part in the Outlaw Half with a number of friends and lots of supporters cheering us on.

Martin Covey: Nominee for Treasurer

Married and living in Lichfield. Competed in numerous triathlons, duathlons, and running races over the past eight years. Prefer Olympic distance triathlons. Enjoy keeping fit in general but am also madly enthusiastic about travel.

Amy-Jo Hooley:  Nominee for secretary

One year ago my husband convinced me to join MVH so I could start swimming regularly, as I was looking for a new exercise. After my second week of swimming I was enjoying a coffee (and cake) with the club when the idea was planted about starting bike riding, and then once I was doing 2 of the 3 sports it seemed futile not to try running. Within 12 weeks I had entered my first triathlon. I still dislike running, but if you had asked me last year at this time would I ever do a triathlon the answer would have been a definite no! It is amazing what a good team around you can help achieve.

Mick Fishwick:  Nominee for Race Co-ordinator

In 2013 I took early retirement so I could have time to concentrate on achieving as many life’ ambitions as possible.  In my first full season I have completed 2 duathlons & 7 triathlons at sprint & Olympic distances. I couldn’t swim 100 meters and hadn’t ridden since a paper round 45 yrs ago. That’s how good this club is at bringing people on and how professional the coaching team are at helping members achieve their potential. This year will be focused on half distance and I hope to achieve full distance in 2015.   I’m happy to give my time to a club that has welcomed me with good guidance, warm friendship and great camaraderie.
