Cycle Ride Database
Martin Covey has been building a database of scenic B road and country lane cycle routes rides in our region. The MapMyFitness database includes the routemap, elevation profile and a brief description and route grading. Some of these are detailed below (click on the ride title for more info from MapMyFitness). Ride 1 – Barton to Wiggington
Distance: 45KM – Climb: 110M – Grade: 2/10 – Comments: Easy ride with minimal hills
Ride 2 – Hill Reps Cannock Chase
Distance: 52KM – Climb: 340M – Grade: 9/10 – Comments: Tough route with hill reps on Coalpit Lane and Stile Cop Road
Ride 3 – Hill Reps Marchington Cliff
Distance: 54KM – Climb: 344M – Grade: 9/10 – Comments: Tough ride including Hanbury Hill, Marchington Cliff, Woodroffe’s Cliff, Banktop Road, Brakenhurst Road
Ride 4 – Barton to Chorley
Distance: 62KM – Climb: 182M – Grade: 5/10 – Comments: Scenic route with a few rolling hills
Ride 5 – Barton to Orton on the Hill
Distance: 53KM – Climb: 175M – Grade: 5/10 – Comments: Scenic ride with a few easy hills
Ride 6 – Barton to Bassets Pole
Distance: 63KM – Climb: 222M – Grade: 6/10 – Comments: Scenic route with a couple of steady climbs. Care required for busy A road near Bassetts Pole otherwise quiet country lanes.
Ride 7 – Cannock Chase and back
Distance: 74KM – Climb: 362M – Grade: 7/10 – Comments: Long steady climb to the top of Cannock Chase but well worth it for the views and fast descent back to Millford Common before returning via Blithfield
Ride 8 – Barton to Market Bosworth
Distance: 78KM – Climb: 251M – Grade: 6/10 – Comments: Long ride to Market Bosworth on quiet lanes. Rolling hills. Care required on busier section through Measham – A444.
Ride 9 – Barton to Abbotts Bromley
Distance: 41KM – Climb: 147M – Grade: 4/10 – Comments: Moderate ride with a few rolling hills on quiet lanes. Care required for 6KM on B5013 crossing Blithfield and through Abbotts Bromley.
Ride 10 – Barton to Doveridge
Distance: 67KM – Climb: 293M – Grade: 6/10 – Comments: Scenic ride through quiet lanes and rolling hills to Marston Montgomery. Care required through Uttoxeter onto cycle path alongside A50 to Doveridge
Ride 11 – Route around Blithfield
Distance: 59KM – Climb: 219M – Grade: 4/10 – Comments: Scenic ride with quiet lanes and a few easy hills
