July / August Training Update

Were into the heart of race season now and already some have had their big A race. What performances at Staffs 70.3 – amazing – a big well done to everybody racing and also to all the extra special MVH club member’s, family and friends supporting – Brilliant !

If you’ve had you’re A race a big well done, enjoy yourselves and enjoy the fun of the summer with some extra training. Don’t forget some further races during the year – The National relays, new on the calendar Blithfield, Derby Sprint, Barcelona or your own personal races.

Its worth spending a little time on race reflection – try to reflect on each race and list a couple of things that went well, its really important to look at the positives in every race. Then reflect on a couple of things that you would like to change or do differently next time.

Examples could be – something you did during the race, before or even after e.g. get up earlier to have breakfast and get to the race early to check out the transition area to give yourself more time or post race make sure I do an easy warm down and some walking post race to help reduce any muscle soreness. Remember post race nutrition – pint of milk and a banana mix of protein and fast carbs.

You can then add these elements into your training plan to practice them before next race day. Remember the golden rule – don’t try anything out in a race without giving it a go and practicing it in training first. This will reduce any anxiety as you will have tried it out before and made any tweaks or adjustments.

If your building up to a big event – keep the training plan going, keep the training consistent and keep listening to the body. Take the rest when its planned and when you need it – better to take a session easy or miss one session if you’re tired or not feeling well rather than trying to push on and then lose more time because you’ve then injured yourself or fallen ill.

Enjoy the many sessions being carried out by club coaches, swim, bike and run

Also enjoy the wonderful open water swimming at the Lavander Patch with some great post swim food and drink available 🙂
